GB people are dumped in jails for demanding rights
karachi:  Pakistan has been abusing the basic rights of the two million people of Gilgit-Baltsitan in complete disregard to the international norms and laws in order to prolong its illegal occupation on the disputed territory. When the people of the region want their rights, they are declared traitors and put behind bars.
This was stated by Shahid Hussain, a leader of the Balawaristan National Front (BNF), Ali Ghulam of the Balawaristan National Youth Organization and Afaq Balawar of the Balawaristan National Student Organization in a press statement issued from here.
“Whenever the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, which is linked to the issue of Kashmir, speak for their basic rights, the representatives of the federal government and their stooges and agents sitting in Gilgit-Baltistan start perpetrating inhuman treatment on them besides violating their basic rights.”
The situation has reached such a point that for the last over five months hundreds of people have been languishing in jail after they were put behind bars just for speaking out for their rights, they added.
“On June 7, when retired Col Nadir Hassan, the son of the winner of freedom war of Gilgit-Baltistan late Col Mirza Hassan, along with BNF leaders Safdar Ali, Iftikhar Hussain, Mudassar Waseem and others tried to hand over their reservations on the China Pakistan Corridor to the officials of UN Commission on India and Pakistan (UNCIP) at its offices at Jutial near Gilgit, they were manhandled by state agencies and later put behind bars.
The nationalist leaders said that since then, the arrested political workers and activists have neither been granted bail nor any charge sheet was being presented against them in the court.
They said that they are now appealing to the higher judiciary and rulers of Pakistan and the internationals organizations to order the immediate release of these political prisoners. They said that the fake and fictitious cases registered against the activists should also be dropped.
The nationalist leaders warned the government of Pakistan to stop the rampant violation of people’s rights in Gilgit-Baltistan otherwise the two million people of the region would rise in revolt against the rulers.
