GILGIT (KPN): Gilgit-Baltistan Council member Amjad Hussain advocate has said the government had no other option except tendering of joint resignations of its members for correcting ongoing worsening law and order situation.
In an interview with KPN, Amjad Hussain said: “The government and Gilgit city’s administration have become failed in easing tension and providing life and property security to the residents in the city.” The city’s administration is helpless to take action against terrorist, he added.
Answering a question about ongoing overall situation, he said presently every sector was going down due to bad-performance of the government, as unemployment was on rise while people have been deprived of facilities. He said local traders had been suffered due to closing of Sost border while contractors besides hotel owners had been faced financial problems in the wake of bad situation.
He said some leaders of the local government had joined hands with Federal Minister for AJK and GB Affairs Mian Manzoor Wattoo in looting the region and fulfilling their personal desires instead of working for providing relief to the people. How a defaulter government can help others, he asked.
Commenting on role of officer appointed by the federal government to posts in the region, Amjad Hussain said former chief secretary Saifullah Chattah and inspector general of police Hussain Asghar were two competent officers and were faithful to GB but they were transferred by AJK and GB affairs federal minister with help of some leaders of the local government. What was the reason and motive behind transferring them, he asked.
He further said those who were putting peace at risk were supporters of the government while the government would not take action against them. Target killers in Gilgit are enjoying free hand of the government, saying such search operation against terrorists cannot be conducted, he added.
Responding to another query about role of Mosque Act Board established by the government for maintaining peace, Amjad Hussain said: “The main role of the board is to create coordination and mutual understanding among the people from different schools of thought but the administration is putting all peace work on its shoulders.”
He urged the government to either ensure improved security situation and safety of lives of the masses or step down owing to its failure. The government seems to be unable in protecting the people against terrorists, he opined.
